Berlin Mitte
Mitte is the central Berlin. Praiser Platz and the Unter den Linden boulevard were the reception room of the German capital in the early XX century. Going from Bradenburger Tor to the Scholossbrucke bridge is a walk over the past glory of Berlin, centre of the Prussian empire. The Potsdamer Platz square, the Tiertgarten park, the Oranienburger street, the Hackescher Markt, the Alexanderplatz square are some of the famous places in central Berlin Mitte.
In fact, Berlin has a long history. From 8000 BC dates the Old Stone Age settlement. During centuries, there were various settlements: teutonics and later, west slav tribes. In the 1134 Albrecth the Bear is the first Ascanian Margrave of Brandeburg, and in 1244 is the first recorded mention of Berlin as a city. After some centuries, Berlin became a central city in the mittle europe, both for politics than for arts. The first united Prussian Parliament dates 1847 (Landtag), but it was only the begining of the hard way of constructing a democracy. It can be said it has taken almost a century and a half to see the dream make real: the XX century history is so dramatically interesting and Berlin is a central place of it.
The Spree is the river that crosses this beautiful, plenty of history, modern city (notice that in german language, the sound "ee" sounds exactly like a double, long e, like in Berlin).
